In the joy of learning

The Indian Schoenstatt Father George Arul Jeganathan who became a priest in last October came to Germany to work in a parish now shares with us his first experiences in Germany:

I live in the middle part of Germany, in Essen Kray. It is the hometown of our Provincial Fr. Bruegger. The name of the Church where I am working now is St. Barbara. About five minutes of walk, I can reach the Schoenstatt Shrine. It is a Blessing.

What are my primary challenges? My first work as I already expected is to learn German. And I feel that the language is slowly taking root in me. Often I wonder how people speak such a difficult language. But, when I am able to understand, see the constructions, the clarity and the beauty of the language, I just wonder…

I still have difficulties with regard to the language. But, I feel, it has much more changed in the last few months. Because of the limitedness in the language, the speed of my thinking and creativity is limited.

The people starting from the parish priest, all the other co-workers and volunteers are very warm-welcoming which a great consolation is. So far it is going on pretty gut.

Just like and other assistant priest I too have commitments such as, Masses, special devotions, burial (I have already buried 14 people in the last 13 Weeks), marriage, baptism, confirmation preparations, youth meetings, choir ( I just sing along),Tamil Masses, Children’s Mass, house visit, and so on…

The parish activities are so well organized that our presence amidst these programs is always enough. We have therefore greater challenges to perform well in our own areas like sermon and Mass.
